CONFERENCE & DEMONSTRATION: Sake and Tea in The Way of Tea (Tea Ceremony)

The Japanese “Way of Tea”, or tea ceremony, is a 500 year old art form that encourages practitioners to live in the moment and find inner peace through the simple act of serving and sharing tea with others in a formal tea gathering, or ‘chaji’. Sake is intimately associated with the Way of Tea and chaji, as guests receive sake from the host three times during the multi-course kaiseki meal that is served in a tea gathering before the tea is enjoyed. In this conference and demonstration we will introduce you to the Way of Tea and explain its relationship with sake, then give a demonstration of a tea-making procedure specifically featured during the autumn season. We hope you can join us to experience a moment of peace and tranquillity at the end of your busy day at Salon du Sake!

Hosts:

Sarah STEWART – Saké specialist and Ura-Senke school tea practitioner

Ken (Soujin) TAKEHISA – Saké specialist and Omote-Senke school tea practitioner

Sylvain HUET – Saké Samurai and Ura-Senke school tea practitioner
