For over 380 years, Gekkeikan Sake Company has been producing the finest sake in Fushimi, a region just south of Kyoto, the ancient cultural capital of Japan. Today, Kyoto is famous as a popular tourist destination thanks to its many temples and shrines, and the lasting legacy of its status as the capital city of Japan for over 1,200 years. It still retains many traditions that have been passed down the generations for centuries, but it is also a place of great learning and technological advancement.
Much like its home, Gekkeikan also has a long history, stretching back to when the first Jiemon Okura founded it in 1637. It also reflects the innovative and entrepreneurial spirit of Kyoto, as we have made every possible effort to pioneer new breakthroughs in sake brewing, and implement the most cutting-edge technological developments along the way.
Today, 14 generations of the Okura Family later, Gekkeikan is proud to remain a family-run business, while also being one of the world’s leading sake companies. We continue to push the boundaries of sake research in order to deliver the finest sake, all under our company motto of “Quality First”. We have an extensive range of premium sake products, all made using the same pristine water of Fushimi that we’ve been using for nearly four centuries.
We very much hope that you enjoy the Salon du Sake event, and invite you to visit our booth and enjoy a cup of Gekkeikan Sake history.
